The process of finding outside support in the form of therapy or consultation is not always an easy one. Studies show that a strong sense of trust and safety are essential to having successful outcomes. Techniques are only the tools used in order to achieve certain goals. To potential new clients I often suggest that they meet with two or three therapists before choosing one. Personalities differ and it is important to find one who you feel is understanding, non-judgmental, appropriately challenging and has experience with your particular issues.

The following quotation by W. H. Murray has been a long-time inspiration for me:
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creativity there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: ‘Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it: boldness has genius, power and magic in it.'
